Swim Lessons

2013 Class Information
Registration to begin: Monday, April 15th 2013
Swim Lessons are offered through the Homewood Recreation Swim Program. The instruction is provided by the Certified Lifeguard staff. The main objective of the classes are to teach kids to be “water safe.”
Each class session is two weeks long, meeting every day (Monday – Friday) of the two week period. The classes are limited to only 24 children per group per session.
Registration must be completed at the Temporary Fitness & Program Facility Business Office (Monday-Friday 8am-5:30pm) and continues until all sessions are full. We offer beginner and intermediate classes and a description of the two skill levels are below.
Swim Lesson Fees
Homewood Parks members with All-Purpose Family Membership: $25 per child for two-week session
Homewood residents: $40 per child for two-week session
Non-Homewood resident: $50 per child for two-week session

Session 1 ~ June 3rd- June 14th
Group A = 8:00am – 8:45am
Group B = 9:00am – 9:45am
Session 2 ~ June 17th – June 28th
Group A = 8:00am – 8:45am

Group A = 8:00am – 8:45am

SKILL LEVEL I
WATER EXPLORATION
Designed to teach children the basics of water adjustment and swimming so that they can at the appropriate time enter regular learn-to-swim classes. There are no pre-requisites for this level. At the end of the level, children will be able to:
1. Feel confident and comfortable in the water.
2. Be able to dip face in the water.
3. Be able to perform “bobs” on side of pool.
4. Be able to hold breath under water for 5 seconds.
5. Be able to float without support on front and back.

SKILL LEVEL II
PRIMARY SKILLS
Designed to improve student’s success with fundamental skills. This level marks the beginning of true locomotion skills.
Completion of Skill Level I is required upon evaluation by the Water Safety Instructor. At the end of this level, children will be able to:
1. Jump from deck into shallow water.
2. Perform glide without support.
3. Float/Kick on front without support.
4. Introduction of front crawl.
5. Introduction of back crawl.
