Weekly tango laboratory / practice for milongueros seeking to improve their dancing skills and explore interconnection, movement and musicality. Fundamental tango skills expected. Milongueros with all levels of experience are welcome. Non-marking shoes with leather or suede soles required.

Step Aerobics – A fun TBW that combines Floor & Step Aerobics, Tubes, Free Weight training/toning, Calisthenics (abs, inner/outer leg, glutes).
Cardio Line Dance – Learn the finer points of line dancing, as we break down patterns into easy to learn steps. Original dance movements to the latest hits that made them popular! If you can count, you can learn to line dance!
Safety 1st! Check those shoes! This is a very important part of your equipment, along with a towel, water bottle and mat. Shoes older than 6-mos and worn weekly (or daily) may no longer have the lateral, arch and heel support you need to perform at your best. No shape-up toners please (shoes with the big rounded heel); they are very unstable!

Central Barre is a small group fitness class incorporating barre, core, cardio, balance, strength training and stretch to give you a complete workout in 55 minutes. We use a variety of small equipment such as weights, resistance bands, balls and sliding discs to increase variety and provide real results. Set to fun popular music, each class will begin with a warmup and include a standing phase, barre exercises and floor/core work along with a mid-point and ending stretch. The class is taught at an intermediate level with modifications given to either increase or decrease intensity. No dance or barre experience required.

Dance Trance is a high-cardio, high-energy dance fitness experience that leaves participants soaking wet! It is a non-stop workout that feels more like a party than an exercise class.
Dance Trance classes are comprised of originally choreographed routines to music of all genres. During the hour-long class, participants can expect to do 13-15 songs, which begin with a warm-up/stretch, build to high-cardio level, and then end with a cool down. Dance Trance classes are for all fitness levels and previous dance experience is not required.

We learn the current and classic intermediate-advanced line dances. Leadership and teaching is shared among our members. We perform for community groups and compete in the Master’s Games and we are always looking for dancers who have experience in line dancing. This class is not for beginners.

FIT4MOM Birmingham provides fitness classes and a network of local moms to support every stage of motherhood. From pregnancy, through postpartum and beyond, we serve our community by offering our fitness and wellness programs to help keep moms strong in body, mind and spirit.
Our classes are kid friendly! Enjoy 60 minutes of fun mom to baby, mom to mom, mom to self and/or mom to coach connections. Classes are offered 3 to 4 days a week at Homewood Central Park.
We welcome all local moms and kids to monthly storytime & activity, playgroups, and mom’s night out events.
Beginner and Beyond Beginner line dance instruction encompassing a variety of music genres, e.g., pop, country and R&B. You will learn line dance terminology, line dance steps, and, of course, line dances to specific music.

Everyone benefits from weight training!!! Affordable small group training sessions are available to members in the new community center weight room with Royce Head, a certified personal trainer with 15 years experience. Each 30 min workout is fast, fun, safe, and effective and each person is started with a program to fit their fitness level. Each workout is a different circuit training routine which keeps heart rate in the fat burning zone while stretching and strengthening all the muscles in the body with extra emphasis on the CORE for a strong back and flat belly.

Vinyasa yoga classes in an energetic environment using upbeat music, synchronizing one’s breath to a flowing series of postures. Devote, detach, and distress for 60 minutes and walk away ready for anything life has to offer. All skill levels welcome. Private sessions are available.

A variety of card cover-patterns are used (ex: straight single-line, picture frame, train tracks, 4-corners, 3-layer cake, cover-all, etc). Large-print numbers on cards, and we can provide cards with even larger print if we know you need them in advance.

Adult Services Librarian Leslie West will lead a discussion of the book distributed to participants in the previous month. Rather than bringing to the discussion a stack of the next book, Leslie will reserve them for readers to pick up at the Homewood Library (current library card required). This is fast paced, light-hearted dice rolling game of 6 rounds. 4 players per table. Players take turns, each rolling 3 dice with a goal of earning 21 points. At the end of each round 2 players from each table move to the next table. By the end of the 6 rounds each player has sat across from each of the other players due to all the switching of seats/tables. Prizes are awarded for highest and lowest score. No cost to play.

“Ponytail Canasta” is the variation most often played. Frequent participants are happy to teach newcomers! Occasionally, the players may opt for an alternative table game such as RummiKub or Dominoes or Golf (card game) or SkipBo.

Seated Exercise is a 45-60 minute class. Gentle joint movement as warm-up. Stretching & strength portions are led with an emphasis on proper breathing & posture. Standing exercises designed to practice balance/weight shifting.

Working with low-fire clay and glazes, participants are encouraged to each “do their own thing.” Seasoned art teacher Jo Ann Brown has an abundance of ideas and inspiration to share and is a great coach for multiple techniques of hand-built clay projects and glaze applications.

Senior Center member Ned O’Brien serves as disc jockey playing popular songs for sing-along, so that the lyrics appear on our large screen tv. Participants are encouraged to submit song requests to be queued up for the next week’s session. This is a fun, social group activity, but an occasional solo is also welcome if you dare!
Smart Moves Line Dancing

Called Smart Moves because regular practice helps keep both mind and body fit! A range of Beginner to Improver line dances are taught to a variety of music styles. Wear sneakers or leather soled flat shoes. Instructor Jackie Tally is a career fitness and dance instructor.

Game played is dealer’s choice. Players bid only nickels & dimes. Senior Center provides playing cards designed for low vision. (*this is currently a small group of 4 to 6 players; if known in advance that several will be absent on a particular date, the other players may decide not to meet). Wednesdays are a possible option for an additional/alternate Poker game if enough players express interest. New players are welcome and needed!

Tai Chi is an ancient mind-body marshal art exercise that with regular practice improves health and wellbeing. It is a moving meditation in the form of fluid, graceful, circular and slow exercises. Dance Fusion is an easy low impact aerobic exercise, where we learn the basics of many dances around the world while having a lot of fun in the process. Linear movements and occasional turns are simple enough to remember and perform, while energizing music of the program helps with cardio elements and a positive emotional effect.
